MBE NOMINATION FORM – MMSDC 2021-2022 BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Nominations are open for the MMSDC Board of Directors

The Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council is accepting nominations for the upcoming election of its Board of Directors. Those elected will serve a two-year term beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2022. In addition to board elections, it is also time to elect the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) Chairperson. MBEIC officers normally serve a two-year term, however, due to term limits with existing officers, we are holding a special election for the Chairperson and this shall be a one-year term beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2021. Note that the person elected as the MBEIC Chair will also serve on the board of directors.

As an MBE in good standing, you are invited to submit your nominations. There are six (6) at-large seats available and one (1) West Michigan seat available, for a total of seven (7) MBE seats available. There is no vacancy in the Mid-Michigan region this year. We encourage you to participate in this important process by using the downloadable nomination form below.

The nomination deadline is Friday, September 25 at 5:00pm EST, no exceptions

Requirements

All MBEs in good standing are eligible to nominate and vote for the vacant MBE seats on the Board of Directors and nominate and vote for the MBEIC Officers.

All Corporate Members in good standing are eligible to nominate and vote for the vacant Corporate Member seats on the Board of Directors.

MBEIC Nominations Form 2021

The Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee (MBEIC) serves as the voice of the MBE community. This standing committee of the MMSDC Board of Directors is comprised of certified MBEs and organized to foster input on issues affecting minority owned businesses, industry trends, and to create MBE to MBE alliances aligned with corporate industry groups and the council’s programs and activities in support of the same.

MBEIC Officers serve a two-year term, however, per our communication to you in October, 2019, due to term limits with existing officers, we are holding a special election for the Chairperson and this shall be a one-year term beginning January 1, 2021 and ending December 31, 2021. Thereafter, all MBEIC officer terms will continue with two-year terms.

  • Chairperson Criteria

    The Chair of the MBEIC shall be a Class II-IV MBE elected by the MBEs and will oversee the MBEIC, including regular operation of the MBEIC Industry Groups.

    The Chair shall be responsible for:

    1. Creating a forum for certified MBEs to leverage, streamline, and engage between businesses within an industry, including sharing pivotal industry and market trends,
    2. Promoting the development of stronger “ready now” MBE firms that align with the actual needs via MBE development programs and other educational opportunities,
    3. Driving MBE to MBE spend,
    4. Facilitating activity that leads to business opportunities for “ready now” firms, whether MBE to MBE or MBE to Corporate Member,
    5. Informing and advising MMSDC on matters from the perspective of its MBE constituency.

    Vice Chairperson Criteria:

    The Vice Chair of the MBEIC shall be a Class I-IV MBE elected by the MBEs. The Vice Chair shall perform the duties and exercise the powers of the Chair during the absence, or disability of the Chair. The Vice Chair shall have such powers and duties as may be delegated to the Vice Chair by the Board from time to time.

    Secretary Criteria:

    The Secretary of the MBEIC shall be a Class I-IV MBE elected by the MBEs. The Secretary shall be responsible for:

    1. Keeping minutes of the meetings of the MBEIC in one or more books provided for the purpose,
    2. Ensuring that all notices are duly given in accordance with the provisions of the By-Laws or as required by law,
    3. Maintaining MBEIC records,
    4. Keeping an up-to-date Register of the MBEs by industry.

Distribute nomination forms to Members & MBEs.

Friday, September 25, 2020 (by 5:00pm EST)
Deadline for submitting nomination forms to MMSDC.

Monday, September 28, 2020
Distribute notice of nomination, the requirements of the position, and acknowledgement form used for accepting nomination to potential candidates.

Monday, October 5, 2020 by 5:00pm ET
Nominees must return their acceptance or decline of nomination to MMSDC. Acceptance acknowledgement must be accompanied by a current resume, statement of interest/value and a photo.

Monday, October 12, 2020
Distribute ballots and candidate statements.

Monday, October 26, 2020 by 5:00pm ET
Deadline for casting votes.

Friday, November 6, 2020
Results of the election to be ratified during board meeting.

Week of November 9, 2020
Formal press statement will be released to Corporate Members and MBEs with the election results, results will be posted to MMSDC website, and notice will be sent to each candidate with their election results.
