Join the MMSDC, MBDA, Ford Motor Company, and the four Michigan-area Hispanic Chambers of Commerce for our first ever Hispanic Heritage Day Celebration.
This second installment of MMSDC’s Heritage Day events series will pay tribute to one of MMSDC’s constituent groups – Hispanic Americans – by bringing together business opportunities, national leaders, and learning under the umbrella of Hispanic culture.
John Quiñones is the Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC newsmagazine “Primetime” and has been with the network nearly 30 years. He is the sole anchor of the “Primetime” series “What Would You Do?,” one of the highest-rated newsmagazine franchises of recent years. During his tenure he has reported extensively for ABC News, predominantly serving as a correspondent for “Primetime” and “20/20.”
Quiñones has won seven national Emmy Awards for his “Primetime Live,” “Burning Questions” and “20/20” work.

Special Guest: Alejandra Castillo, National Deputy Director, Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA)
Ms. Castillo serves as the principal advisor to the MBDA National Director and manages the day-to-day activities of the Agency and it’s national network of 40 business centers. This operation expands the U.S. economy and creates new jobs by providing services to promote the growth and global competitiveness of minority businesses.
Under the Obama Administration, MBDA has assisted minority-owned firms in obtaining nearly $15 billion in contracts and capital, creating and saving over 33,000 new jobs.
David Solano joined WXYZ in July 2012 as weekend sports anchor. He also hosts the Sunday Sports Update and contributes to the Ford Lions Report Live.
David received a best broadcast/print journalism award by the National Association of Black Journalists, and received an honorable mention by the Humane Society of The United States.

Ford Hispanic Network Awards Presentation
The Ford Hispanic Network, one of Ford’s employee resource groups, was founded in 1992 and is deeply involved in the Latino communities of southwest Detroit. FHN will present the following awards during MMSDC’s Hispanic Heritage Day:
- Amigo Award
- Leo Padilla Award
- The Espiritu de La Comunidad Award
Entertainment: Cuban Jazz with Descarga-ranga
Descarga-ranga, a local Cuban jazz band in Detroit, and the DJ’s of Latin Entertainment will provide added atmosphere.
