It is with excitement that the Detroit MBDA Business Center and its operator, the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, announce the recipients of the $1,000 MBDA Scholarships that will be used to cover the registration fee at this year’s NMSDC National Conference and Business Opportunity Exchange in San Diego this October.
In order to be eligible to apply, the MBEs were required to have been in business for at least two years, a graduate, current participant, or show significant involvement with the Project ONE program, have a national reach for their goods and/or services, and demonstrate significant support and involvement with the MBDA and MMSDC, with first time attendees given preference. In making the final selections, the factors above were considered, and the MBDA ensured selecting a diverse group to receive the awards. Those selected for the scholarships not only demonstrated excellence in all of the categories listed, they are also reflective of a group of many ethnicities, including the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce, Michigan Black Chamber of Commerce and Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and a variety of industries. The purpose of the scholarships is to provide these smaller MBEs with the financial assistance to allow for their attendance at Nationals in order to truly take advantage of the opportunities available.
This year, the NMSDC is collaborating with the U.S. Department of Commerce MBDA by hosting National Minority Enterprise Development (‘MED’) Week. The combined opportunities of both the Conference and MED Week will offer attendees a myriad of opportunities to network, learn about the latest information on procurement, global competition strategies, and ways in which to grow their businesses. It is also the hope of the Detroit MBDA that through awarding these scholarships, the selected MBEs will be able to network and have access to federal funding and new prime contracts.
