Michelle Sourie Robinson

President & CEO

What is your role and how do you feel you support MMSDC Constituents . What issues should MMSDC constituents take to you?

In my role as President & CEO, I am working to ensure our level of service to corporate members and MBEs is unparalleled. Although I fully support and trust our team to consider recommendations and handle any issues that arise in their respective departments, I maintain an open door in those instances that require escalation.

Your path to your current position at MMSDC?

I am an attorney by education and have been blessed with significant and diverse opportunities throughout my career. In my formative years, my family taught me that all things truly were possible to those willing to work hard, consistently challenge themselves, and take calculated risks. Consequently, my skillset is unique because I openly explored, constantly challenged myself (and the status quo) and made career decisions based on my interests, passions and my desire to grow, personally and professionally. This approach as well as God’s grace, an innate gift of perseverance, and fabulous mentors along the way, equipped me to innovate, challenge and execute. I have had the privilege of being the youngest and first African American attorney for a Fortune 3 company, and later I led the Learning department responsible for providing training and development for 315,000 employees of a Fortune 10 company. I then moved to create that company’s first supplier diversity department and processes, and I have also had the honor of pursuing my lifelong dream of creating a non-profit that helps individuals and business owners give time, money and other resources to worthy causes – that work continues without me today and is currently making a huge impact on the multiple continents. Then, … one day a headhunter contacted me, convincing me to consider Michigan. I am forever grateful for the opportunity and genuinely esteem this work we are doing as the honor of my career. I am confident that I was created for such a time as this.

Why do you choose to work at MMSDC?

I have been a part of the global supplier diversity network for about 15 years and there is truly no comparison to MMSDC. The commitment of strong corporate members coupled with the sheer determination of outstanding MBEs makes us a force to be reckoned with.

What are your outside of MMSDC hobbies or passion projects?

In my spare time (whatever that is), I recharge by sharing quality time with my tight-knit family. I am also an avid gardener, although the deer population in Michigan has proved challenging.
