Greetings Michigan Small Business Owner:

Detroit’s recent history is filled with both great challenges and dynamic entrepreneurial activity. The city’s municipal bankruptcy has created uncertainty for small businesses – particularly for small contractors – at the same time that the recovery of the auto industry and a growing startup ecosystem have opened up new economic opportunities. Given these challenges and opportunities the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is bringing the American Supplier Initiative (ASI), a government-wide federal initiative designed to increase commercial and government supply chain opportunities for small firms, to Detroit.

Being a supplier to a large business is a game changer. But, we know that small businesses often lack access to the capital, training and market opportunities they need to be effective and successful suppliers. We want to change that because we know that those small businesses that supply to large corporations report an average revenue growth of more than 250 percent and employment increases of more than 150 percent.

As a part of the ASI, SBA is holding a series of supply chain events throughout the country, in collaboration with federal agencies and private companies, to provide the tools and resources needed for small businesses to take advantage of these opportunities.

SBA is proud to continue this national initiative in Detroit, a regional hub for large corporations, federal agencies and small business suppliers.

We hope to see you there!
